Telugu Wedding
Photography in Hyderabad
From pellikuthuru to jeelakarra bellam and talambralu — we know every ritual on the mandapam, stay out of the priest’s way, and never miss the moment.
A Telugu wedding is not one event — it is two days of rituals, most of which happen before sunrise, in a hall lit by tube lights and a videographer’s lamp. Photographing it well takes someone who knows what is coming next. HydSharpFocus has covered Telugu and South Indian weddings across Hyderabad for 11 years.
We know the order of the rituals
This matters more than it sounds. A photographer who does not know that the talambralu turns into a laughing match, or that appagintalu is the moment the bride’s father finally breaks, will be standing in the wrong place when it happens. We plan our positions around the sequence:
- Snathakam and Kashi Yatra — the groom’s mock departure, always good for genuine laughter
- Mangala Snanam and Gauri Puja — early morning, soft and quiet, often the most beautiful light of the day
- Kanyadaanam and Madhuparkam — the formal heart of the ceremony
- Jeelakarra Bellam — the exact second the paste goes on, with both families pressing in around you
- Mangalsutra and Talambralu — fast, noisy, and unrepeatable
- Saptapadi and Sthalipakam — the metti and the seven steps
- Appagintalu — the farewell, and the frames families cry over years later
Shooting a muhurtham that starts at 4 a.m.
Auspicious timings do not care about light. Most Telugu muhurthams in Hyderabad fall in the small hours or just after dawn, inside halls with mixed tube light, LED panels and a video lamp pointed at your face. We light for that deliberately — bounced flash and our own panels — so skin tones stay natural and the pasupu yellow does not turn green in the final images.
Both sides, at the same time
In a Telugu wedding the bride’s preparations and the groom’s rituals run in parallel, often in different rooms or different floors. A single photographer has to choose one and lose the other. We work as a team so both are covered, and so your album has the full morning, not half of it.
Family portraits, done properly
Every Telugu wedding ends with the group photographs — immediate family, maternal side, paternal side, college friends, office colleagues. This is where most weddings run forty minutes late and everybody gets irritable. We plan the list with you in advance, keep the sequence moving, and get it done while people are still smiling.
Reception, sangeet and the pellikoduku functions
The pre-wedding functions — pellikoduku, pellikuthuru, mehendi and sangeet — are where the personality of the family shows. They deserve the same coverage as the ceremony, and they are usually where our favourite candid frames come from. See the results in our gallery.
Albums built for Telugu families
A Telugu wedding album has a job: it gets passed around at every family gathering for the next thirty years. We design printed albums that carry the whole sequence in order, with the ritual frames and the family groups given the space they deserve, not squeezed onto one page.
Wedding films in Telugu and English
Our cinematic wedding films and teasers are shot by the same team as the stills, so the two match. Song choice, language and edit pace are yours to decide.
Where we shoot
Function halls and convention centres across Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, Gachibowli, Kondapur, Madhapur, Secunderabad, Begumpet and the Shamshabad airport road — plus temple weddings and destination weddings elsewhere in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
