Hyderabad has one of the great Muslim wedding traditions in India, and photographing it well means understanding the etiquette as much as the light. HydSharpFocus has covered nikah ceremonies, manjha and mehendi functions and valima receptions across the city for 11 years.
We photograph the functions the way your family expects
- Mangni — the engagement, and the first time both families are together in front of a camera
- Manjha and Haldi — informal, colourful, and full of the day’s best candid frames
- Mehendi — detail work on the hands, and the music and dancing around it
- Nikah — the qubool hai, the signing of the nikahnama, the dua. Quiet moments that must not be interrupted by a photographer
- Rukhsati — the farewell, and the most emotional frames of the entire wedding
- Valima — the reception, the stage, and the formal family portraits
Respectful coverage, discussed in advance
Every family draws its own lines, and it is not our place to guess where yours are. Before the wedding we sit down and agree on how the ladies’ side will be covered, which functions are to be photographed and which are not, whether the ceremony itself should be shot from a distance, and what may and may not be shared publicly afterwards. Tell us what you need and we will plan the team around it.
Shooting in Hyderabad’s wedding halls
The function halls of the old city, Tolichowki, Mehdipatnam, Banjara Hills and the Shamshabad road each bring their own lighting problems — heavy chandeliers, coloured uplighting, dark stages. We bring our own lighting so that sherwani embroidery, jewellery detail and skin tones all come through cleanly, without a video lamp in anyone’s eyes.
Both sides covered at once
The bride’s preparations and the groom’s arrival usually happen in different places at the same time. We work as a team so that neither side of your family is missing from the album.
Wedding films and teasers
Our cinematic wedding films are shot alongside the stills by the same team, with the same restraint during the nikah itself. You choose the music, the language and how much of the ceremony appears in the final edit.
Albums designed for the whole family
We design printed wedding albums that carry all the functions in sequence, with proper space for the family portraits that every gathering will want to look through. Browse our recent work in the gallery.
Where we shoot
Across Hyderabad and Secunderabad — the old city, Tolichowki, Mehdipatnam, Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, Gachibowli, Begumpet and the halls along the Shamshabad airport road — and destination weddings elsewhere in India.
