Quick answer: In 2026, a 500-guest Telugu wedding typically costs ₹12–40 lakh in Telangana (Hyderabad) and ₹8–30 lakh in Andhra Pradesh (Vijayawada, Guntur, Vizag, Godavari districts). Hyderabad is 15–30% costlier per item (venue, décor, vendors), while Andhra weddings often spend more overall because of bigger guest lists and elaborate feasts.

Both states share the same pelli: the Jeelakarra Bellam, the Talambralu and the mangalyam. But when families sit down to plan the budget, a wedding in Hyderabad and a wedding in Vijayawada, Guntur, Rajahmundry or Vizag can cost very different amounts.

We’ve photographed Telugu weddings for 11 years, in Hyderabad function halls and at coastal Andhra celebrations. This guide breaks down where the money goes in each state so you can plan without surprises.
Note: All figures below are indicative 2026 ranges for a wedding with about 500 guests. Actual prices depend on the season, the muhurtham date, the city and the vendor. Always get written quotes.
The Quick Answer
| Expense | Telangana (Hyderabad) | Andhra Pradesh (Vijayawada / Guntur / Vizag / Godavari) |
|---|---|---|
| Venue / function hall | ₹1.5 L – ₹8 L (premium: ₹10 L+) | ₹75K – ₹5 L (premium: ₹6 L+) |
| Catering (per plate) | ₹450 – ₹1,500 | ₹350 – ₹1,200 |
| Décor & mandapam | ₹1 L – ₹6 L | ₹75K – ₹5 L |
| Photography & films | ₹1.5 L – ₹6 L | ₹1 L – ₹4.5 L |
| Bridal makeup | ₹25K – ₹1.5 L | ₹20K – ₹1 L |
| Pandit & rituals | ₹15K – ₹60K | ₹15K – ₹50K |
| Typical total | ₹12 L – ₹40 L | ₹8 L – ₹30 L |
In short: base costs in Hyderabad usually run 15–30% higher. Andhra weddings often catch up, and sometimes overtake, on food, guest count and gold.
1. Venue: Hyderabad Pays a City Premium
In Telangana, most of the cost goes on the venue. Convention centres in Gachibowli, Kompally, Shamshabad and on ORR-facing properties charge premium rates, and hall prices on peak muhurtham dates can double. Farmhouse and resort weddings are growing fast and add another cost tier.
In Andhra Pradesh, function halls in Vijayawada, Guntur, Nellore and Rajahmundry are noticeably cheaper. Many families still hold the wedding at a community hall, a temple kalyana mandapam or their own native place, which cuts venue costs sharply. Vizag beach resorts are the exception and cost the same as Hyderabad.
Tip: On a peak date, book your hall 4–6 months ahead in Hyderabad and 3–4 months ahead in coastal Andhra.
2. Catering: Andhra’s Big-Ticket Item
This is where Andhra weddings flip the budget. Godavari and Krishna district weddings are known for elaborate spreads: 25–40 items, several pickles and podis, sweets like Pootharekulu and Kaja, and banana-leaf service. The price per plate may be lower, but guest lists of 800–1,500 are common, so the total food bill climbs quickly.
Telangana weddings, especially in Hyderabad, often split the menu between a traditional vegetarian muhurtham meal and a non-veg reception or dawath with biryani and live counters. Non-veg and live counters raise the per-plate cost.
| Menu type | Hyderabad | Coastal Andhra |
|---|---|---|
| Traditional veg meal | ₹450 – ₹900 | ₹350 – ₹750 |
| Non-veg / biryani menu | ₹700 – ₹1,500 | ₹550 – ₹1,200 |
| Premium multi-cuisine + live counters | ₹1,200 – ₹2,000+ | ₹1,000 – ₹1,600 |
3. Décor and Mandapam
Hyderabad couples tend to ask for designer mandapams, floral ceilings and themed receptions like Sangeet and Haldi setups, which pushes décor budgets higher. In Andhra, traditional plantain-and-marigold mandapams are still popular and cost less. Flowers are often cheaper too, because they’re sourced locally from the Godavari belt.

4. Photography and Wedding Films
Photography rates in Hyderabad are higher, but so is the choice of crews and styles, from candid photography and cinematic films to drone shots, LED walls and same-day edits.
| Package | Hyderabad | Andhra towns |
|---|---|---|
| Traditional photo + video | ₹80K – ₹1.5 L | ₹60K – ₹1.2 L |
| Candid + cinematic film | ₹1.5 L – ₹3.5 L | ₹1.2 L – ₹2.8 L |
| Premium (multi-day, drone, pre-wedding) | ₹3.5 L – ₹6 L+ | ₹2.5 L – ₹4.5 L |
Hiring a Hyderabad team for an Andhra wedding? Add travel, stay and food for the crew, usually ₹15K–₹50K depending on distance and number of days. Many families still do it for the consistency of one crew across the Pellikuthuru, the wedding and the reception.
5. Hidden Costs Nobody Talks About
- Gold and silks: In both states this is often the single biggest expense, and it isn’t included in “wedding cost” estimates. Kanchipattu and Dharmavaram sarees plus bridal jewellery can match the event budget.
- Return gifts and tambulam: Andhra families often plan larger return-gift budgets because guest lists are longer.
- Multi-day functions: Pellikuthuru, Pellikoduku, Snathakam, Haldi, Sangeet and Vratham each add venue, food and photography time.
- Travel and stay: Destination or native-place weddings mean guest transport and lodging.
- Muhurtham timing: Late-night and early-morning muhurthams add overtime for the crew, venue and caterer.
Which Costs More, Then?
- Telangana (Hyderabad) is costlier per unit: venue, décor, vendors and city logistics.
- Andhra Pradesh is often costlier in scale: bigger guest lists, grander feasts and longer celebrations.
A 500-guest wedding in Hyderabad will usually cost more than the same wedding in Vijayawada. A 1,200-guest Godavari wedding can easily outspend a mid-size Hyderabad celebration. For a wider view, read What does it really cost to host a South Indian wedding?
